Bev's Diner, Ellijay Georgia

Bev's Diner Ellijay Ga

The interior of Bev’s is a throw back to the 1950’s with vinyl albums, a juke box, and a caricature of Elvis on the walls.

As we enter Bev’s Diner, Johnny Cash sings over the house speakers at a moderate volume, setting the tone for this hometown eatery. We are immediately greeted and seated. Mid-century music dominated the entire visit, and the whole place is a throwback to the 50s. Old vinyl records with their jackets line the walls, along with a jukebox mural covering one wall. Red seated booths and a checkerboard ceiling round out the Happy Days vibe.

Bev’s Diner menu is mostly two-patty hamburgers, but they offer other selections as well

The menu leans heavily on burgers, but other sandwiches and salads are offered. Alternatives like the Mexican Vegetarian burger or two different chicken sandwiches are also available.

Bev's Old American Burger stacked with lettuce, tomato, mayo, onion, tangy pickles, and applewood smoked bacon on a toasted brioche bun is a two-fisted sandwich!

I start with the Old American Burger, two grilled beef patties stacked with lettuce, tomato, mayo, onion, tangy pickles, and applewood smoked bacon on a toasted brioche bun. The oversized 2-patty burger spills over the edge of that fresh bun and is as messy as it’s supposed to be! Next, the house BLTE, a bacon lettuce tomato sammy bottomed by a fried egg on sourdough bread. The bread is toasted to perfection with a crispy brown outside crust. One bite of the sandwich renders a mouthful of flavor with that fried egg oozing just enough. Skin-on fries are hot and crispy, and the sweet potato fries are just as delish. We did not have the hand-battered onion rings, but they also looked tasty.

Bev’s offers several different milkshakes, but we decided on peanut butter. The thick shake topped with whipped cream has a delicious flavor and chunks of peanut butter with every sip.

Bev’s have a kid's menu here where all items are $7.50. Prices are reasonable for the tourist-heavy downtown area. Service is friendly and fast. There’s plenty of free parking across the street in the Baptist Church lot, and it’s a few steps off the main circle that makes up Ellijay’s town square. In the mood for a good burger and some 50s nostalgia? Bev’s is the place.
