Gordon Ramsay's Burger- Yes, Chef!

Gordon Ramsay Burger dining room with a UK flag emblazoned on the ceiling

TV Chef Gordon Ramsay's foray into the world of burgers was a must-visit in Boston. I mean, it's Gordon Ramsay. It's burgers. We had to go. I wanted to see if his food and staff matched his TV pomposity. Should we expect burgers on china with dozens of staff members yelling "Yes, chef", and a world-class perfectly paired wine list, or something else? It was the latter. The burgers and the entire menu are elevated fare, but simplicity reigns here in their presentation. Dishes are served a la carte; everything comes on a small papered aluminum tray. Sandwich ingredients are well thought out, but there's nothing Hell's Kitchen complex about them. That's not to say they aren't executed with meticulous detail.

Ramsay’s place is set in a wedge-shaped building next to Boston's public market, along the Freedom Trail. The interior is lined by picture windows, creating a bright, open space. 1970s and 80s rock and blues music (with a strong lean into British rock) plays at a comfortable volume. The ceiling is emblazoned with a large UK flag in relief covering the dining room, and the color palette for the rest of the modern appointments plays off of it. Booths line the walls, and a well-appointed full-service bar is in the middle. They offer standard and craft cocktails and a short list of wine and beer.

Celebration Burger with sriracha aioli, roasted tomatoes, bacon, Swiss cheese, portabella mushroom, and an over-easy egg, It’s the featured burger of the month

The menu isn't overwhelming. There are four beef burgers- five including the monthly featured burger- with alternatives like a chicken and vegan burger. Fries’ options are plain, truffle, and sweet potato.

Southern Yardbird- Ramsay’s version of a chicken burger. It’s ground chicken patty with sharp cheddar, bread & butter pickles, bibb lettuce, and mustard BBQ

The Celebration Burger is where we start. It's a thick patty with sriracha aioli, roasted tomatoes, bacon, Swiss cheese, portabella mushroom, and an over-easy egg, and it is the month’s special. Ordered medium rare, the tall sammy is a beautiful blend of savory, creamy goodness accented by that delightful egg that oozes out on first bite. The Southern Yardbird is a ground chicken patty with sharp cheddar, bread & butter pickles, bibb lettuce, and mustard BBQ. It's a simple combo with a garlicky pickle kicker.

Accompanying our burgers are the Just Fries, the house plain fries that are a crisp golden brown on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They are served sprinkled with chives with two house-made sauces, regular and chipotle ketchup on the side. Alternatively, truffle fries come with house ketchup, truffle aioli, parmesan, chives, and Sweet Potato Fries that are topped with vanilla powdered sugar and honey jalapeño aioli.

Gordon Ramsay Burger is located in the heart of the downtown Boston historic district along the Freedom Trail and next the the Public Market.

The menu also offers Hot Dawgs, Ramsay's version of the American favorite. The Standard Dawg is served with onion, mustard, ketchup, bread & butter pickles, and their Chipotle Dawg has cheddar, avocado, chipotle ketchup, Fresno chiles, jalapeño, and pepper relish. All dawgs are served on a toasted sesame seed bun.

Service is prompt and attentive, and the knowledgeable staff is more than happy to guide you through the menu or offer recommendations based on your preferences or allergies. Prices are high for a burger joint, but given the area (Boston) and elevated ingredients, well worth it.
